There is an interesting interior design “rule” about flooring… spend as much as you can on the flooring because it is the stage for the rest of the home. Woollen carpets and rugs are an example of how an investment in beautiful flooring goes a long way to creating a feeling of luxury in your home.
Apart from the aesthetics of woollen carpets and rugs, woollen carpets and rugs are warm and soft underfoot and are remarkably durable. Woollen carpets and rugs also have the added benefit of deterring bacterial growth within the fibres and contain lanolin which naturally repels stains and dust mites. This makes woollen carpets and rugs and ideal floor treatment for people suffering from Asthma. (For more information on how to clean your home to make it safer for Asthmatics click here)
Inevitably, however, there will be spills and mess on any flooring and when you’ve invested in an expensive woollen carpet or rug, the panic of keeping them free from spills can be overwhelming, but not when you follow these simple steps:
The first step in caring for your woollen carpet or rug is to regularly get rid of loose dirt by beating the back of rug and vacuuming, and vacuuming the carpet regularly – especially with a Sebo vacuum cleaner that can agitate out dry dirt. This will help to ensure that dirt doesn’t become engrained in the carpet or rug where it can further damage its fibres. It also ensures that the loose dirt doesn’t mix with surface moisture to create mud which could stain the fibres of the carpet or rug.
If you do spill something, be sure to blot the excess moisture dry with a clean white microfiber rag, removing as much of the liquid as possible.
Finally, continue investing in your woollen carpet or rug by having it cleaned every six months or so by a professional.
